Question

Laserfiche Connector Integrating With DataNow

asked on June 8, 2017

Our city is looking to move forward with Laserfiche Connector for integration with the various programs we're using here, and getting away from Affinity as a result. I was posed a question from the Finance department this morning and wanted clarification / confirmation from other users about this prior to responding. They're wondering if Connector will allow them not only to send info to Laserfiche, but will it allow us to upload information from Laserfiche into DataNow.

Does Connector have the ability to do that (create a CSV file of metadata to be used by DataNow)? For example…one of our desired workflows for AP would be to email invoices to departments, have the invoices coded with a drop down selection box in Laserfiche, be approved and routed back to AP to upload into DataNow in order to eliminate data entry.

Clarification on this would be great, thank you in advance! Also, some idea of how would this be accomplished?

I don't know that Connector can export CSV or anything like that, but in theory, you should be able to configure it to extract the necessary data from a Laserfiche document, launch whatever page/application you use for data entry, and populate the associated fields.

I would suggest running the LF Connector test utility on your DataNow interface to see if it can detect and access the fields you need to populate with data from the Laserfiche document.

However, If you absolutely need a CSV, you might be better off with a business process in Workflow that the users can run from the LF Client. Use Workflow to extract the data from the target document, and a custom script activity in the workflow to build/save a CSV somewhere it can be accessed by DataNow.

Thank you Jason. I just got off the phone with our VAR as well and here's how he described it to me...

Yes, you can integrate both ways with Laserfiche Connector and DataNow. It's a two-way street. As of right now, there's no way to automate the process through Workflow.... in the example I gave above, you'd utilize Workflow for most of the document's history and correspondence - then, at the conclusion of the workflow, you'd input the information into DataNow by basically clicking a pre-configured Connector button which would take whatever information you'd like to populate the DataNow fields. The custom script idea is a good one as well.

Part of the problem is my lack of understanding of Connector. But running a test utility on the interface may be the best course of action. I may explore that option. Again, thank you for the insight!

Connector is a surprisingly powerful tool, and it is actually relatively easy to configure. The test utility should at least let you know if Connector can find the fields/controls, as well as whether or not it can successfully read/write data for those fields.
