Question

Filter External Table on Text Field

asked on June 7, 2017

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how to filter on a dynamic field based on the value of a separate text field. Using Laserfiche 9.2.

Example: I have a template with two fields, a customer PO field and a product field. I have set up a view to be my external data source, and the data returned resides on a linked SQL server. I want the product to filter down based on what is entered into the Customer PO field. What is the best and most efficient way to achieve this?

Thanks,

Preston

Preston,

Since you already have a SQL view you can do this using the dynamic fields in Laserfiche. You will need to make sure you have this SQL view in the same instance that the Laserfiche repository database resides in. When you have that you can go into the external tables section in the administration console and set that there. In order to set these up you will have to go into the Laserfiche Administration console go the template and then go to the dynamic fields tab in the template properties window. Here you can select the external table and the parent and child fields that you want to use for the Dynamic tables.

Hi Christobal,

Thanks. I have set both fields as dynamic fields, but the issue is I want the first field (Customer PO) to be a text entry field and not something that returns back the entire set of data in the view. By making it dynamic, it pre-populates a list of over 180,000 purchase orders. Is there a way to make it so the list for Customer PO doesn't populate?

Thanks,

Preston

Preston,

I see what you mean. It looks like it only does take the drop downs from the criteria. One way to make the list shorter is to have more dependent fields. I believe Quick Fields uses this as real-time lookups.
