Question

Parallel gateway stuck waiting for paths

asked on May 24, 2017

I have a parallel gateway split into two tasks but only one of the tasks will complete. After adding some signals to interrupt the other task when one is completed, there are 4 paths merging but only 2 will ever be active.

I made the mistake of using a parallel gateway to merge instead of an inclusive gateway and now instances are in progress waiting for paths that will never complete. Is there anyway to manually flag them to continue or are those processes permanently stuck?

Hey Nathan,

I've got a very similar situation.  Were you able to do anything to move this forward or did you just have to cancel the instance?

Thanks,

Drew

Since Forms 10.4.2, you will be able to skip the stuck parallel gateway to make the instance continue with following steps.

Good afternoon Xiuhong! How do you do this? I have the same situation and the process is stuck. I cannot find anyway to skip the parallel gateway. We are on LF 11. Thanks!

I think you need to add an inclusive gateway that will 'collect' the Supervisor or Plant Operator outflows then connect that Inclusive Gateway to your Parallel gateway.

In your current process if you click the icon to skip it will proceed and you can fix the process after.

Thank you for the reply!!! I fixed the process and have had a couple go through correctly so that's good. I can't skip the gateways. The only ones I can skip are the ones that look like links with the blue text. Am I missing something?

That is expected behavior. You can skip currently active steps (the ones with the blue links).

The functionality is intended to move the process forward past a current user task that can't be completed for whatever reason. There is no "when you get to this gateway at some point in the future, pretend it's not there". Everything in the instance details has already completed, so there's nothing to skip.

Right. I understand that. Problem is that it is a parallel gateway (left from previous version) that can never be satisfied. So it just sits there indefinitely with no way to move the process on. I had to make the fix and then restart one of the tasks attached to that gateway to "jump start" the process so it would finish. There should be a way to skip gateways too. Actually, this should be an error that is checked on verification.

What was your fix that you applied Kyle? Thanks

Yes it was. It looks like LF12 will have the ability to skip gateways much like tasks but in the interim, fixing the process then retrying a step leading to the gateway did work.
