Question

How to capture file name as save as metadata in quickfield?

asked on May 17, 2017

Hi Guys,

Is it possible to use Quickfield in this manner?

I got a document call JasonTan_Resume.docx & Jason Tan_Resume.pdf. Since different applicant will have different types of resume layout. It will be quite difficult to use quickfield to capture those information. Is it possible for me to use the file name of the document to stored into LF Repository? For this example, I will use file name to capture Jason Tan as applicant name(Metadata) Resume as Document type(Metadata). This 2 meta data will be use to create the folder structure. If yes, how do i achieve this?

My Folder Structure:

HR\Staff Records\Jason Tan\Resume

Please advise

Thank you.

Regards,

Jason Tan

It sounds like you are trying to use the original Windows file name as the document name in Laserfiche? If so then using the %(Name) token as the default document name in the document class properties will do the trick - this may actually be the default setting anyway.

If you want to include the original file name as metadata, you can use the same %(Name) token, and the %(Extension) token if you require that also. If using both remember to manually insert the period (.) character. You can also include the extension in the document name using the same token.
