Question

Is there a way to link specific values from a multi-value field with values from other multi-value fields?

asked on May 15, 2017

I need to create a template with a customer ID and I need to list that customers children on the same document. The children have different addresses and phone numbers (and with married children and step children could have different names).

I thought of building a template with a multi-value field for child name, child phone, child address, etc. Is there a way to link each name to an address (for example: child name 1 linked to child address 1 and child phone 1,  child name 2 links to childaddress 2)? It can get complicated with multiple children and some children may be missing a information field (making it very hard to find out what information belongs to who. we have some customers with 3 or more children and trying to match their name to their address and phone number could become a huge mess.

We need to keep this information all on one template because the information is all on a single document.

I thought I heard version 10 of LF had this capability. Is this accurate? Any help or workaround to solve this problem is appreciated!

Hey Kevin,

This is what multi-value field groups addresses, introduced in Laserfiche 10.2. It allows you to have multiple sub-collections within a single template that collects multiple iterations of the same set of information (name, address, etc). You can then search within those collections as well. You can set up groups in a template in the 10.2 administration console.

That sounds perfect for what I'm trying to do!

I have version 10.2 installed in a test environment so I'll ask them to push version 10.2 to production so we can get this going!

I appreciate your help!

OK, started working with multi-value field groups like Kevin and I'm trying to figure out how to rename a group.  Looked in help files and videos and didn't see anything using the search criteria 'field groups' or 'multi-value fields'.  Can someone point me in the right direction?  Thanks!
