If the participant you refer to is self-defined user you created in Forms, then the answers is No.  When use Laserfiche Server for authentication, only LDAP participants added via LDAP server profile can belong to the LDAP groups; When use Laserfiche Directory Server for authentication,  groups can be added via Laserfiche Directory Server and user with participant license can be long to those groups.
