Question

Laserfiche Upgrade 10.2 affected features

asked on May 7, 2017

Hi,

This question is from a customers using LF RIO 10.1 with Forms, I thought I will ask it in this forum if anyone has any knowledge.

The customer wants to know if any feature was downgraded, removed or highly modified in any of LF modules in LF 10.2 before upgrading from 10.1. I apologise in advance for throwing such an open ended question.

I have viewed Release Notes and List of Changes but nothing stood out as having been affected. So before I let them know that, I thought I will check here.

The reason the customer has asked me to confirm this is because in LF 9.2, apparently there was a way to right click a file in LF desktop client and send URL to the file which was for a web access and its not available in 10.1. I am not sure if that feature existed in 9.2 but they don't want something like that to repeat. I did provide them with a Workflow option and a custom menu option but that didn't make them happy.

We strive to improve usability and avoid removing features that are useful, but people use the software in many different ways. What one customer is really happy about, another is upset by.

Is the customer on Rio? If so, they have unlimited Forms installations. As such, they could do the following to get a preview:

  1. Update their master  license (does not require them to update products)
  2. Install Forms 10.2 on a separate machine
    1. Depending on how much effort you/they want to put in, they could use copies etc. to clone their existing setup and then upgrade
  3. Let them try some of their everyday processes

Hi Adarsh. The reason the option to copy a URL was removed from the web client was because you no longer needed it. Each document now opens in it's own tab and you can simply use the browser URL like you would with any other web page.

As a note, Web Access can still send URLs in an email (which may be what your client is referring to?) but the desktop client definitely did not support this because it has no knowledge of where Web Access is installed.

The desktop client supported and still supports sending "links", but these are shortcuts that open in the desktop client, not Web Access URLs.

Thanks Jusin, Brianna. That really helps.

Please can you answer the first part of my question:

The customer wants to know if any feature was downgraded, removed or highly modified in any of LF modules in LF 10.2 before upgrading from 10.1. I apologise in advance for throwing such an open ended question.

I have viewed Release Notes and List of Changes but nothing stood out as having been affected meaning all features available in 10.1 work the same way or have some degree of improvements. So before I let them know that, I thought I will check here.

@████████I addressed your initial question below to avoid conflating the two responses. Sorry for any confusion that caused.
