Question

Question

Use Connector to Fill a fillable MS Word document or fillable PDF.

asked on May 4, 2017

Has anyone used Connector to fill out a fillable document such as a PDF or MS Word Document that has fillable fields?

I know the easy answer is "Use Laserfiche Forms" but some of these customers don't have forms or don't want to use it since the system they use has something similar.  There are some forms that they use for processes such as wire transfers that they have to print out for the customer to sign and they would like to use Connector to pull info out of the core screen with the customer's account information on it and populate the fillable PDF or MSWord document with that information.

I have tried using UI automation and JavaScript to find the controls and on both PDF or MSWord fillable documents, the fields are not seen.  It just sees the document as one big program box highlighted in red.

BTW, these are forms that Workflow can see and fill out.

Thoughts?

if it is doable, that will be by using laserfiche workflow.

Laserfiche workflow can retrieve data from a laserfiche document or from a laserfiche form and populate the pdf forms or words form document (which they have fillable fields)

so maybe you can verify if with the connector you can retrieve ths information from the system the do the screen scraping) and populate these information into a new document that workflow will monitor to do the rest of the job.

Thanks for the reply.

I have verified that connector can retrieve the information from the main system.  The issue is Connector cannot retrieve from or populate to that fillable PDF.  I understand that it can be done via Forms or Workflow, but this is a document outside of Laserfiche completely, that must be signed first then put into Laserfiche.  We have used Connector to pull data from one system and insert it into another system (with no Laserfiche interaction at all). This is similar, but the destination "system" happens to be a fillable PDF or Word Document with fillable fields.

Word and PDF forms are not web forms, so the usual methods Connector uses to recognize and populate fields don't work. They'd require a separate implementation in Connector.

Thanks Miruna.  I appreciate the reply.  Glad to know I wasn't missing something.  If I can put this in as a dev request, that would be great.  We have some use cases if needed.
