Question

Question

Question on behavior of changing template field.

asked on May 2, 2017

So I have a template with 2 fields. DATE and TYPE

When the template was originally created, the "TYPE" field was designated as Text, but it makes more sense to change it to a List.

So they have several hundred files out there with the Field "TYPE" is spelled out like "Regular" or "Special" and others with the spelling "REGULAR" and "SPECIAL".

If I go and edit the template to make that "TYPE" field a List instead, and add REGULAR and SPECIAL to the list, what will happened with those documents which have the metadata as "Special" and "Regular" in other words with Camel case rather than all CAPS.

Thanks!

Nothing. Values already assigned to documents will stay as they are. The list is there to make it easier for users who set the value. It's not going to force existing values into matching (as it would happen for a conversion from a more permissive format, like text, to a more restrictive one, like date).
