Question

Preserve jpg format when uploading through Mobile?

asked on April 26, 2017

We need to be able to preserve an image in it's original format for legal reasons (PD implementation) when uploading photos from the iPhone Mobile App.  Even though all user settings for image conversion have been removed (and the image format is preserved when importing to the LF Client), the images uploaded through the iPhone mobile app are still converted to TIF.

How can we Mobile to stop converting images to TIF?

Is there a way to do this?

Jessica,

Currently, we only preserve the format of a picture if you upload them from other 3rd party applications.

We are looking into if we can do something about this in the coming release in couple weeks. Otherwise, we'll add it in later releases.

One more questions, do you know what the major devices the customers are using?

This, like my other question today, is for a Sheriff's office, so important to maintain chain of custody and minimize 3rd party applications.  They're using iPhones.

Hi Jessica,

An updated Laserfiche app with version (10.2.3) is available in iOS app store now. From there, under Upload Files, you can find "Photos and Videos", or you can upload jpg from other sources such as dropbox etc. This way, the images will be uploaded to server as is. Although server will still be replacing the image's file extension to tiff, the image itself is intact with no compression or conversion applied.

Feel free to let us know if any feedback or new requests.

Julia: I am the customer that had requested this feature. I have updated my iphone and it works as expected, with one exception: When choosing to upload a file, it only allows uploading one at a time. This is a problem because our deputies will always have multiple photos to upload at a time. Also, I do not see the "Import with Laserfiche" option for photos similar to Audio memos.. if either of these 2 options can be enabled, please let me know. How can we get this word to developers to make this change to allow multiple selections or register Laserfiche as a sharing option when viewing photos? . Thank you for your prompt response to this request.

Julia, is there any way users can upload multiple photos at a time?

Julia: Any update on this? No responses from you/Laserfiche since 5/10 is very frustrating> Please give us the ability to do multiple file uploads. Also the new app version is buggy. Currently I cannot upload at all because things get stuck at "Processing:0%" - Been working with Cities Digital on the issue today but so far we have found no solution. Laserfiche's "Mobile First" Strategy that was pitched to us is lacking.. please help and respond to this request.

Hi, Juan.

Sorry for the delayed reply. We've been researching how to make this work. It wasn't clear at first to us that multi-select is within the scope. And we didn't have multi-select for upload edoc in iOS because it's not something came natively with the system.

Now we got your request and are wondering if you are going to save the multi-selected images into one Laserfiche document or one image per document?

We can add in that feature and we need quite a few efforts on this one since it will be refactoring the complete flow to do multi-select and keep the original image.

With the bug you reported, our QA wasn't able to reproduce it here and has suggested that a support case needs to be opened for us to know what's going on.

Thank you for your patience and all the feedback.

Hello, the request from the beginning was to upload Photos in their native .jpg format without creating a Laserfiche document.. the browser version allows this even in a mobile (Iphone) environment.. even with multiple selection.  It is not as user friendly however as the app... requesting the same exact function in the app.

Thank you for the explanation.

Our current implementation preserved the native .jpg. We didn't do multi select because it's not supported by default on iOS and needed more dev time. Since the feature came in the last week before our release, we didn't add the ability to multi select.

Mobile app doesn't support all the features available in Web Client because most of the mobile use case is quick transactions. Now we have your use case, we are adding this feature.

Currently, we are adding this to be the same as WA and will release an update soon.
