Question

Changes to metadata on versioned documents

asked on April 25, 2017 Show version history

I recently added a new field to a document template.  I set the default for all new documents to show 12 months, but I had existing documents whose field value needed to be set to 12 months too.  Since there were under 50 documents affected, I selected all in web access, chose metadata (not update metadata) and made the change to 12 months in the template field and saved it successfully for all the documents.

My question is why would Laserfiche only increased the version for the FIRST document in the selected group?  These are all versioned documents and I would have expected that the version would have increased for all of them.

What should be the expected behavior when metadata is changed in multiple versioned documents?

Does this change if I were to have used a Workflow to make the metadata change?

Please advise, thanks.

Hi Michelle,

We resolved and tested the issue for the recently released Web Client 10.2.1. The issue should be fixed once you upgrade. If you do continue to see it, please let us know.

This is a bug in the web client, we will look into fixing it (bug# 156978). The documents whose version numbers weren't increased are still marked as checked out by you. To fix this, update the fields on each document individually, or you can use the windows client to update them as a batch. Once the documents are saved and a new version is created, the problem should be fixed.
