Feature request: Auto-generate pages from PDFs uploaded through Forms

posted on April 9, 2017

Self-explanatory. For PDF files uploaded through Forms, we would like the option to be able to auto-generate TIF pages. This is so that repository users can open them and start using the annotation tools right away, as opposed to having to manually generate pages first.

This feature was released in Forms 10.2.1. If the connection profile user has the setting to convert a file type to TIF when importing to the repository, the files uploaded to the repository will follow that setting as well. You can modify the list of converted files in the Options section for the repository profile user.

I have 10.2.1 installed and see no option for this feature. Any chance you could show a screenshot?

thanks

It's not a Forms option per se, it is based on the user you choose as the connection profile of the save to repository task. Let's say your connection profile uses USER A to connect to the repository. Log in to the desktop or web client with USER A and check the option to Generate pages when importing PDFs. When you save to your repository using the USER A profile, instead of a PDF, the file will be converted to a tif.

Thank you Jared, that is much appreciated!

This behavior seems to have been lost in version 11. Are there new attributes for Forms to use?

That would be a very strange LFS 11 change/regression. I'd temporarily give your Forms user a license, log into Web or Windows Client 11, and sanity check that the Generate Pages when importing PDF option is both enabled and working as expected.

You also now have the option of DCC page generation, which will on average produce better TIFs.

Thanks, Sam.

Yeah, I set the options on the account and tested and it works in the Client and Web Access (one attribute is different for WA vs. Client), but coming from Forms they remain PDFs.

Assuming I'm not crazy or overlooking something, I will go the DCC route. Only issue there is having it remove the PDF after TIFF generation is more complicated than it should be.

Forms only supports following the option of "Generate pages when importing pdfs" in released versions, it doesn't support the remaining options for PDF files such as "keep original pdf files as documented https://doc.laserfiche.com/laserfiche.documentation/11/administration/en-us/Default.htm#../Subsystems/Forms/Content/Processes/Process-Modeler/Repository-Profiles.htm.

We are working on enhancing that to support other options in the coming Forms 11 Update 3.

This feature has been supported with Forms 11 Update 3:

  • When saving PDF files to repository, Forms will follow all the sub options for generate Laserfiche pages.
