Dynamic Fields with Description Column

asked on April 7, 2017

I have created some Dynamic Fields that reference External Tables.  However, I would like the drop down to display a description column, but store an identifier column.

e.g. Can the drop down display "Software and Maintenance Fees" but store "123456789" once selected?

I'm trying to use this functionality for things like GL Code - GL Description, Employee ID - Employee Name, etc.

Is this possible?

Rob,

Have you thought about using a hidden field that populates the hidden field with the associated GL code or Employee ID when users select from the dynamic drop down description or employee name?

This way when a user needs to change the content, they aren't seeing just the code in the template, they are seeing the more friendly verbiage.

Thanks for the suggestion Michelle.  It seems like you might be talking about Forms.  Are you talking about editing Laserfiche metadata templates in core Laserfiche?

I'm still hoping that someone from Laserfiche can help me answer this question.  Is there a viable workaround or something on the roadmap?

Rob,  I am referring to editing a Laserfiche metadata template in the Admin Console in core Laserfiche, not forms.

You would setup your dynamic fields GL Code and Employee ID in the admin console with parent fields of description and employee name.  Then you would hide the GL Code and Employee ID fields by making the security field = blank (vs. a deny) to keep them from being seen by anyone except those user groups who need to see them.

I can't answer whether this is something on the LF roadmap or not.
