Question

Hide field and Save the data when the field is hidden

asked on April 5, 2017 Show version history

Not sure what this feature is used for. It seems like it is impossible to use.

I would like to save any data entered into the field when shown, in case they accidentally hide them momentarily. However if I try to use this feature it is impossible to submit the form, since it says that all the fields are required, even when they are not shown. You can't fill out fields that are hidden. It wants you to fill them out regardless of them ever even being shown.

Are you hiding the field with Field Rules or custom JavaScript?

Field Rules, this is a new selection that shows in 10.2 where you can ignore the data or save the data. I like the idea of saving any data entered into a hidden field, I just can't use it because it will not let you submit the form.

There doesn't seem to be any documentation on that feature either. I would be curious to know how it works as well.

I've been turning off the back-end validation on most of my forms because of stuff like this.

O.O You can do that?

On the Form Layout Page, click the setting button (gear).  At the bottom there is a setting option regarding the backend validation.

Useful! Thanks! I will use with caution

You can change the rule to ignore the data when field is hidden if you want to turn on the backend validation so that the backend validation won't validate those hidden fields.
