Question

Question

How do you name files by alpha\numeric to keep them in proper alpha order?

asked on April 4, 2017

So Laserfiche properly alphabetizes files for column page count (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4...10, 20, 22, etc.) however there has never been a way to properly number files by document name for them to show in alpha order by a number like that of page count. Does anyone have a solution for this? Basically, we have someone that wants to drag files into Laserfiche and keep them in the same order as they appeared in windows explorer. Thank You

Our old method for filing used a five digit number so file one was 00001 and twelve was 00012 this allowed for alphabetical order to work.

Depending on how they are moving the file into Laserfiche you could use Creation Date or Entry ID.  You could also create a Field with the proper numbers in it and sort by that new field.  If the number that you want to file it by is in the name you can make a workflow to pull that number into the new field.

Travis,

Thanks! Like the idea of entry id order, I think that will work best.

Travis, are you on version 10 by chance? Any idea what happened to ability to select "Path" as a column choice? I know it was there with 9.2, can't find it anywhere with version 10.2 full client?

We are currently on 10.1 I believe.

I only the Path column in the search results. It is not in the general repositories for me.
