Feature Request: Folder Pane Expansion Behaviour

asked on April 4, 2017 Show version history

A really useful trick in the hard client is that as you drill down into folders in the contents pane, the folders expand in the Folder Pane.

This is really useful for me as I generally use the contents pane to go into folders, but if I make a mistake, I don't want to start all over again. I know I can use the path at the top, but this feature will reduce steps (e.g., instead of clicking on the path and then the right folder, I can click on the right folder on the left-hand side).

I'm training staff on webaccess rather than the hard client, but it's difficult when I know the hard client is so much more user friendly!

Thanks!

In the Display tab of the Options page there should be an "Expand to current folder" option.  Does enabling that do what you want?

I'm very confused as to why that option is not checked by default. Truly a bizarre design choice... smiley

It's fundamentally a performance consideration. It can be slow to expand all siblings of multiple layers of a folder tree in one go and we don't want the user to experience a system that feels unresponsive. The option allows users to choose the potential trade-off of performance vs. auto-expanding.
