Email Discovery / FOIA handling using Laserfiche

asked on April 4, 2017

Hey everyone!

I've been talking to someone about using Laserfiche as a mechanism to handle dealing with FOIA requests - specifically the viewing of requested emails.

Currently those emails are exported as a .pst file from Exchange.  These are hard to deal with, generally, as they are large and need to be attached in Outlook for viewing.

So - anyone out there using LF to handle the viewing of discovery/FOIA email files?

I'm sure we can handle the forms/workfows/etc for the approval process - it's the actual presentation of the email that is the problem.  Trying to think of a way to mass-convert the pst into PDFs, maybe?

I figure I'm not the first, so I ask if anyone out there is doing this.

Thanks!!

Hi Michael,

Perhaps you can have FOIA requests submitted using a Laserfiche Form instead of through email?

Hi Joanna - the Forms part will be fairly simple.  My issue is that I want to store the emails requested in the FOIA in Laserfiche and have the staff, etc. view them for internal review before sending them out.

Viewing one big glob of email as a .pst just isn't workable, so trying to figure out how to present these emails.

We have used a product called Aid4Mail.   It does a great job of converting pst files into other formats among many other things.   I think we paid around $40 for this.   Might be worth a look, we have used it a lot in conjunction with LF.

Andrew - does it have a command line interface?  Wondering if I could hook it up to Workflow?

Thanks for passing it along!

I don't believe it has a command line interface or other API.  That would be pretty sweet.   You can download a free trail and try it out.
