No starting step found

This workflow worked fine and now it seems to be failing.  We did apply Update 10.2 Update 1 today (https://support.laserfiche.com/kb/1013834/list-of-changes-for-laserfiche-forms-10-2-update-1- )

Edit - We patched our Dev environment and this is happening in Production.  So not patch related.

 

When I configure the activity everything works.  Testing the Forms Server I get 

 

What does this error mean?

Sounds like your Forms process does not have a start event.

Forms needs a start event, not a message start for Workflow to be able to trigger the process.

This used to work, and in fact still does in our Development environment.  Just ran one through now.

Hm, that's odd. Please open a support case and indicate the differences between the Development and Production systems.

Alright I will see about starting one.  The different is that Dev has Forms update 1 and live does not.  The goal is to get a task to the user when the first workflow runs.  Would a work around be:

 

Start Event (not message) --> Start Form (user task passed with variables from the Invoke and no Submit) --> Workflow?

Did you do anything to your workflow or the process in Forms? There is no change in Forms 10.2. update 1 that will affect this. Is there a start event in the production environment? Can you check whether it works if you save the process in production again?

Thanks for the replies, we just opened a case for this item.  As far as we know, nothing was changed.  What happened was a deployment.  We cleared Production of workflow/forms (deleted everything), and then imported Workflow/forms from out Dev environment.  After Prod was up and working we applied Update 1 to Dev.

In starting the case we realized we could not download the Forms process out of Prod.  We can out of Dev but got a "unexpected error" when downloading out of prod.  Wondering if the cant download problem is related to invoking it.  Details in the case.

I followed up your support case, it seems the download xml was modified first then upload to the Production and the process xml was corrupted somewhere which cause the process worked improperly.

Correct, we put the downloaded business process through a script since Laserfiche has no built in GUI for pushing workflows between a development and productions environment.  This script basically goes through the xml and find/replace servernames and form names between their dev and prod versions.  We manually edited the xml and re-imported and things work.  For good measure we downloaded again out of Dev, ran the script, imported, and it worked.  So the script works fine but somehow in this instance the process was corrupt.
