Question

quickfields drop down (metadata)

asked on February 28, 2017

Hey everybody,

I have created a workflow that pulls a set of metadata off of a scanned documents and allows the result to be viewed in quick fields.  One section of the metadata (a drop-down list) is not populated, but intended to be filled manually after everything else is complete.  My problem is as follows:

I open the metadata set for manipulation in quick fields and all the data is populated correctly.  The drop-down list in question is set to blank, and displays the possible options when clicked.  However, when I select one of the options, quick fields does not update/save that edit to the repository.  From past experience, that's how it works.  You just click what you want and you're done.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Got it resolved.  It tuned out that the user needed to be granted write access to %programdata%\laserfiche\quickfields

- it also fixed an unhandled exception upon QF exit.

This happened to me, too.  It ended up being an issue with the security of the field when it was set up.  If I remember correctly, it was the right to modify the field.

I fixed the problem by changing the rights in the Laserfiche Admin console.  After that, it worked perfectly.

May not be the same issue for yours, but it is worth checking out.

Hi Ben,

When reprocessing existing Laserfiche documents, Quick Fields copies the documents from Laserfiche to the Quick Fields workstation and modifies them locally. So after you modify the field value in Quick Fields, you need to store the document back to Laserfiche with the appropriate merge options based on what parts of the old documents you want to overwrite with the newly modified ones.

There are many different options for this, located in the Document Merging tab in the Document Class Options dialog. For example, I'd check that the field merge options shown below are set to 'Overwrite with new value':
