Question

Braintree Payment for Forms

asked on February 16, 2017

Hello! I just got back from Empower where I learned more about payment processing in Forms via Braintree.  When a form is submitted with a payment configured, is it authorized at that time? Or is it actually pulling the funds at that time?

One of our customers deals in shipping materials.  They need to be able to authorize up to 120% more than the estimated cost just in case it does go over.  Once the shipment is actually processed, they need to be able to charge the actual amount it came out to.  For them, the payment processing needs to handle it in two different stages.  Is this possible currently with the payment processing?  Thanks!

Hi Shelby, I guess we talked in the conference regarding authorization and pulling fund separation. In the current release, the fund is pulled at the first step, so not just authorization.

We are actively looking into separating the authorization and pulling fund into different stages so that the whole process can be more flexible. We are also evaluating an enhancement that payment can be collected in user tasks so that you can initiate a payment in the middle of the process where you already know exactly how much you want to charge.

Really appreciate your feedback about our new feature!

Hi Any update on this portion? We have similar situation that a pre-approval (check on user's ability to pay) vs later to charge amount when a final decision made. Customer don't want to charge their client/applicant then refund if it's not been accept (the application) which is too much work for them.
