Full Text Search Optimization question

asked on February 13, 2017 Show version history

Per one of my users:

Using the LF Admin Console, I manually run a “Reindex the Whole Repository” operation.  The Reindex on 800000 items goes quickly, but the Optimization ran for 3 weeks.  During this time, the resources on the machine were not being used fully and the LFFTS.exe was running less than 1gb of memory.

Is there configuration for this?  Why did it take so long?  How do I speed it up?

You can try using QRCMD.exe to re-index the repository.  It is faster than using the Admin console.

Which version of LFFTS are you using? How large your catalog is? Please post a screenshot of the search folder if possible. It is unusual to take so long to finish optimization, especially when LFFTS just uses 1GB  of memory. And for 'Optimization ran for 3 weeks', what exactly did you see? Sometimes LFFTS performs incremental optimization, or it can schedule optimizations on idle time. And sometimes optional optimizations might be canceled for insufficient resources, or user activities. So what you saw could be several small optimizations instead of a single one. The messages in Windows Event Log might provide more information about optimization.
