Question

Is there a change in 10.2 to the URL format for opening electronic documents?

asked on February 7, 2017 Show version history

Hi guys,

The Admin Guide has the following format for a URL to open an electronic document:

https://ServerName/laserfiche/electronicfile.aspx?db=dbName&id=EntryID&mode=OfficePlugin

I've tested this on two separate systems and just get a blank browser page with no error, but also no application launch to load the electronic document.  The URL to download the electronic document works fine (https://ServerName/laserfiche/electronicfile.aspx?db=dbName&id=EntryID&mode=Export) but we want to be able to open the electronic document in the required application directly from the link.

(Version 10.2)

Thanks,

Mike

I see. Thanks for the additional detail. I can reproduce it now and it seems to be a bug independent of the URL format, and have filed SCR 154282 for this. Thanks for bringing it to our notice.

Hi Mike, I can use a link of that form to open an Office document from Web Access with the Office Integration without issue. Does this happen in all browsers, and in the same browser session are you able to open an Office document from Web Access (via the folder browser) without issue? If before navigating to that address in the browser, you open the Developer Tools pane (F12), are there any errors reported in the browser console?

Hi James,

Thanks for your response, and sorry, I've failed in basic troubleshooting, the issue just appears to be happening in Chrome (which is a wee bit of an issue as it's a terminal server environment and Chrome is the default browser published for the staff).  The other URL modes such as Export work fine, but the officeplugin mode doesn't seem to work.  The Developer Tools pane in Chrome shows the following after trying to open the URL:

Launching the same office document from within Web Access in Chrome opens without issue, so it just appears to be a problem Chrome has with the URL when the mode is set to officeplugin.

Thanks,

Mike

Has this been resolved yet? I did a search and was only able to find this post.

Thanks!

Any update on this? I'm seeing the same blank page behavior on version 11.0.2102.205

Thanks, Miruna, but I'm still just getting a blank page in both Chrome and Edge (and I tried rebooting and clearing cache). Currently just trying to figure out some options for a new project, so just my DEV environment. I'll hit up our solution provider to dig deeper.

Can you post the exact URL you're using? Maybe we missed a spot.

Sure. This is the URL I set up:

https://HOST.DOMAIN.com/laserfiche/electronicfile.aspx?db=REPO&id=4545&mode=OfficePlugin

Which upon putting into the browser turns into:

https://HOST.DOMAIN.com/laserfiche/ElectronicFileOfficePlugin.aspx?db=REPO&id=4545

For reference, opening the Word doc from the repo uses this URL:

https://HOST.DOMAIN.com/laserfiche/DocView.aspx?db=REPO&docid=4545#?source=search&openmode=LDPS
