Question

Exporting documents as PDF's is taking forever...

asked on February 3, 2017 Show version history

Hello,

We have a client on version Avante 8.3.1.663 (I know...) and they are trying to export documents (thousands) out of Laserfiche as PDF's so the recipient can review these documents out of Laserfiche and text search those documents.

Even when we try exporting just one document it takes about 10 minutes (varies in size anywhere from 2 MB up to 250MB).

They have a virtual server as well and upgrading isn't an option for a few months.  This client does have a deadline of 2 weeks to get these documents out.

Any help or insight is much appreciated!

Thank you,

Jon

The attributes would be specific to each user unless it is set at the Everyone trustee and the users themselves don't have the attribute explicitly set.

However, the recommendation that they obtain a test system to run Laserfiche 10.1 or 10.2 to do this still stands.

Hi Jon,

Certain PDF Export settings may cause the process to be slower in general. If you can check the attributes of the trustee doing the export (as well as the attributes of the Everyone group) try and see if there are any related to PDF exports that may be a factor. You can focus on the Options and Settings attribute subsets.

However, as for a suggestion to the immediate task, please have the user export the documents as a briefcase and then import it into a newer Laserfiche 10.1 or 10.2 system running on faster hardware and do the PDF export there.

You can speak with your Laserfiche Regional Manager about requesting a temp license for the customer or perhaps this is something you can directly assist them with.

Regards

Alex,

This client is still having issues apparently.  This client is saying that they are using the Laserfiche Admin account to do this export, does this make a difference in looking at the attributes?

Thank you,

Jon

Alex,

Thank you for the response.  I haven't heard back from the client in a while and they never sent me a briefcase to test this.  I'd assume they figured this out or just dealt with the time it is taking.
