Question

Restrict 'save as', 'copy/cut & paste from Laserfiche to another location' for documents stored in laserfiche

asked on January 30, 2017

Hi Everybody,

Is there any possibility to restrict 'save as' of a document stored in Laserfiche to a location outside of Laserfiche? The restriction should be to a set of users.

I looked for any feature/access right to restrict same but was not able to do so.

If above is not  a standard feature in Laserfiche, is it feasible via Laserfiche SDK, please propose any other solution.

Please assist on same?

Sweety

Hi Sweety,

There is no distinction on different files types, you can either export/read or you can't. However if the user has the ability to read the document, you are still in the same boat. You can't stop them from 'exporting' the document one way or another.

I'm assuming since you mention different prompts on tiff vs electronic file, are you using web access?

Hi Sweety,

This comes up sometimes when implementing and is always an interesting discussion point. If the user has read access to the document, there is no way you can stop them exporting the document. They can in a very crude mannor use a screenshot or even photograph the comptuer screen with their phone/camera. The key here it to limit read access as a first point of call, not try to deal with the export issue afterwards.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction.

Thanks for your answer Chris. Are you sure that we can't restrict it via SDK?

If so then we can track the copy/paste or save as of any document from Laserfiche repository to somewhere outside Laserfiche in audit trail, right?

You can always track the activity through Audit Trail yes, but you simply won't be able to stop it happening at all. There is also the export feature right to consider but that of course doesn't stop things being screen shotted or using photos and is applied per user/group, not per folder. wink

Right, we are disabling the Export feature right. Is there any way to disable Open electronic file from laserfiche?

Else, I noticed that If we use tiff we do not receive the option to open electronic file.
