Feature Request: Social Media Archiving in Laserfiche

posted on January 19, 2017

We've had a few general requests from agencies that want to archive their social media content and whether or not if Laserfiche can be used for social media archiving.  While the answer is technically yes in the sense that you can export your Facebook posts and Twitter feed to a single archive file, the request for social media archiving is more in depth.

Request - A Laserfiche social media archiving solution that allows for manual or automated archiving of individual posts from Facebook or Twitter with metadata to make archived posts more organized and easily searchable by content, date, etc.

Laserfiche team, would like to know your thoughts on having prepackaged activities for this.

I wonder if you could do this using the Workflow HTTP Web Request activity? If you can setup each social network as a web service for Workflow to query, it would return back results as tokens. You could then use pattern matching to separate out the different posts, their dates, who posted, etc.

It would be better if there built in activities for this, at least for the main social networks.

Laserfiche team, have there been any feature updates regarding auto-archiving social media posts?

Additional detail about how customers wish to use the integration can be helpful when considering niche features like social media integrations.

E.g., what industry is interested in this and why do they want to be able to search their social media posts in Laserfiche specifically? Is it for a public records request?

Given that social media management isn't a core aspect of Laserfiche and that is is possible through custom integrations, I don't see us developing a built-in activity for social media archival at this time.

It might be interesting as a solution on the solutions marketplace, so if you've built an integration, submit your workflow!

Thank you, Brianna. This would be for a city government Laserfiche records management solution. They are required by law to record/store all social media activity for public records requests, and they are currently using archivesocial.com
