Does Forms 10.2 Only Support Oracle Data Sources Using ODBC?

asked on January 17, 2017

I noticed when trying to add a new Data Source in Forms 10.2 that Oracle is no longer an option for DBMS type. Is it only supported using ODBC now? If Yes, what happens to databases that were using Oracle as the DMBS type when they upgrade to 10.2?

Oracle was never supported for the backend database with Forms. Just lookups.

Correct, that is what I am referring to. These are the only options I see when setting up a lookup data source:

Oops, I read that wrong.

Do you have the Oracle Client and Oracle Data Access Components installed on the Forms server?

Not on the one I took the screenshot from. That is from a test server. The concern came up when I didn't see it though because if Forms is upgraded to 10.2 and an ODBC connection is needed, does that delete all of the field rules in the processes that were using an Oracle database for lookup?

They're not dropped, though they won't work. But you do need to install Oracle on the new server if you're moving between servers as part of the upgrade.

So if the Oracle Data Access Components are installed on the Forms server than it will show up in that drop-down?

Yes. You may have to restart the application pool.
