Question

LF Web Access License error

asked on January 10, 2017

Hi, I get the following error message when we connect via web access to our Test LF environment:

Web Access cannot find a valid license file. Use the activation tool at C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access\ActivationTool.exe to activate Web Access or place a valid license file in C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access\.

Error: The Web Access license host fingerprint does not match the current fingerprint of the computer.

The lf.licx file exists.

Other info:

- Test LF Server is activated from our Prod LF Server.

- Client connections to the Test environment is ok (only Web Access is problematic).

Thanks

The error message states that the fingerprint in the license file doesn't match the fingerprint of the computer.

On the web server where Web Access is installed, run the utility from KB 1012618 to view the computer's fingerprint. Then open the C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Web Access\lf.licx file in an xml/text editor and view the fingerprint in the license file. Compare the two and you should notice that they are different.

What you would need to do is to use the Laserfiche Directory Server to generate a new license for Web Access on that web server using the proper fingerprint. Then take the new license and replace it on the web server. You may need to perform an iisreset before the new license file gets detected.

So here's what I did.

1) regenerated the lic file from the Directory Services.  Copied over to Test server under the 'server' folder.  Restarted the service.  Client works.  Web still not.

2) on the Test server, thru LF Web Access Configuration utility, I tried to recreate the repository by deleting and re-adding.   I get:

Warning:

Unable to locate a license file for Web Access

I checked the lf.licx file and the hw fingerprint is not the correct one.

Back to the Directory Services, I could only generate a license file for Server, and not Web Access.  How can I fix the license file located under the Web Access folder?

Appreciate further assistance.

Ok, I think I found the issue.  When Web Access was being set up, we were prompted to enter the License Manager Server.  I need to update that info.  How can we change the Web Access configuration to point to another License Manager server?  I tried to run the Web Access installation, but both modify and repair options do not provide this option.

Thanks!

You don't need to do anything with the Web Access installation. You would just need to generate a new Web Access license file from the Laserfiche Directory Server.

Can you clarify what issue you're having with generating a Web Access license from LFDS? In the LFDS web administration page, you should be able to see your applications and then go into Web Access to generate a new license file. Before just generating the license file though, make sure the edit the registered instance and update the fingerprint as necessary with the fingerprint you saw from running the showhwfp.exe utility on the web server.

I did look into that, but the registered instances / total = 0 for Web Access.  It's always been zero, I believe, and the Test environment used to work fine.  Also, the production environment Web Access is also fine.

I have done a bit of work forward, and I tried re-creating the repository on Web Access Configuration, as I believe the Test server was referencing a License Server that has been decommissioned.  So I deleted the repository and when recreating a new repository, I got stuck with a message that the server could not be found (or invalid creds).

I have created a new thread on this:  https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/113644/web-access-setup-101

Would you be able to advice on this?

Thanks, Alexander

I'm not clear how you may have had Web Access licensed initially if you don't have any registered instances of it in LFDS.

I've reached out to your Laserfiche VAR on your behalf and have asked them to contact you to assist you with straightening out the application licensing in your Rio environment.

Thanks Alexander.  I will await clarification to this setup.

Hello again Alexander.  I noticed that after the successful reconfiguration of the Web Access on the Test server, the registered instances now shows 1.   I think why it did not work before was that the License Manager Server was changed to a new host since the original Web Access was configured.  That is why, the license became invalid and the registered instances showed zero.
