Where are forms and workflow stored when published?

When one publishes a Form and Workflow, does it get saved automatically as a Form file / WF file and if it does, where is it stored? The reason I am asking is that I am having major email issues with one of my VMs and I believe the only way to get rid of the cause is to backup all my data, flatten it, rebuild it, then restore all of my data back. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Hi Bernard,

The data for Forms processes or workflows are contained in the respective databases and the XML for the respective export files is only generated upon export. So to back up the data, you need back up the Forms database as well as the Workflow database, configuration files and any custom activities.
