Question

Database diagram/data dictionary

asked on January 3, 2017

Hi,

I've seen a couple of similar questions relating to this but no conclusion - is there such a thing as a database diagram for the Laserfiche repository database? I remember way back that if you bought the toolkit/SDK you would get a paper (or PDF?) copy of the database schema describing all the tables and relationships but that was dropped.

Is it now "official" policy not to publish this information due to intellectual property concerns? I remember hearing something similar when we last discussed this.

Thanks,

Nigel.

Very inconvenient that a data dictionary is not published.  Are you aware that many of your competitors publish this for their products?  The intellectual property concern (if there truly is one) is a false claim; anyone who has a product license and access to SQL enterprise manager can make a copy of the db anyway.  In my view, the SQL/Laserfiche Admin who is not interested in this type of reference is demonstrating a questionable lack of curiosity and/or desire to achieve a higher level of expertise in the product they support.  You should publish a data dictionary and make it readily available as part of your standard documentation set.  That's my two cents.  I'm a new customer, btw.  I've been asking for this for months... I will persist in this request. smiley

A copy of the database schema can be found under the Laserfiche Server folder ..Program Files\Laserfiche\Server\SQL , for sql schemas refer to ms-schemas.sql the file can be edit in notepad. The file contains a brief description of the tables if you need some general information.

For oracle schemas , refer to file ora-schemas.sql .

Laserfiche does not publish the database schema. Direct modifications of the database are not supported.

OK thanks both, useful to know there is a schema of sorts available. They may just wish to query data directly but are aware that direct modifications are not supported and they should use the SDK for that.
