Question

WebLink - display name changes not saving

asked on December 28, 2016 Show version history

I am working with a user who has multiple WebLink profiles set up for different repositories. For some of them, they have a "public" connection that authenticates with a generic "lfweb" account, and a private connection that prompts for credentials. These would be shown by their display name as such:

CityX

CityXPublic

TownY

TownYPublic

etc.

But no matter what changes I make to the display names and Apply the changes, if I go back into the WebLink configuration utility, all the changes are undone and names do not align to the correct repositories they are connecting to.

A support case was opened for this issue. This is a bug with the WebLink Administrator's Utility and SCR 153229 has been filed for the matter.

The issue is that when editing and saving changes to the repository connections in the WebLink Administrator's Utility, the change will always be saved to the dbid that corresponds to the selected row when sorted by dbid in ascending order, despite whichever row is visually selected.

For example, here is a default view of the WebLink Administrator's Utility

Now, if I change the sort so that so that it's no longer by dbid and ascending, and then change the display name to something else, it may look like the following

and when I apply the change

but once I click OK and reopen the WebLink Administrator's Utility, it shows

The workaround for now is to leave the repository connections sorted by dbid in ascending order if you want to change the display name in the UI and have it save correctly. This thread will be updated again when a fix is released.

Thank you for the research. Going forward, we will not sort by Display name when making edits.

Would you say that this is an accurate summary of what you are seeing?

  1. Open the WebLink Administrator Utility
  2. Change the Display Name for one of the connection profiles
  3. Press Apply and OK
  4. Open the WebLink Administrator Utility
  5. See that the Display Name is back to what it was in step 1, not what you changed it to in step 2

This works for me in WebLink 9.  It sounds like the Administrator's Utility is failing to write to the file, though it's strange that it's not reporting an error.  Maybe it's a permissions problem, you could make sure that you have rights to the file C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\WebLink\Config\WLConfig.xml.  One option would be to manually edit the file - you should be able to see the DisplayName attributes in the XML.  You also might want to open a support case so that we can look into this further.
