Question

Audit Trail Security

asked on December 20, 2016

Hello,

We have a client of ours that is requesting a feature in Audit Trail that allows a specified user to have the ability to run reports based on their access rights in their repository.  I know you can set up which users have access into Laserfiche Audit Trail, but it seems there isn't a way to control what data they can actually run the Audit Report on.  If there is a way to control this please share, otherwise an added feature in Laserfiche Audit Trail for this would be fantastic!

Thank you,

Jon

There isn't a way to do this currently.  It has been suggested a few times, so I hope we can deliver something in an upcoming version of Audit Trail.  Ideally we would adhere to the rights that a user had on an entry at the time that the event occurred, but that information is not recorded anywhere.  If the entry still exists it would be possible to retrieve its current security from the repository and include/exclude events based on that.

Do you have a particular use case in mind?  Would your users be looking at audit events for deleted entries?

Thank you for the reply Brian.  The client of ours did not mention anything specific, they just wanted a certain user to use Audit Trail.  Even though they can grant access to Audit Trail for that user, there is certain information that the client did not want that user to see.

I will keep my eye out for the next version of Audit Trail!

It would be helpful if you could get more information from them about what they want users to be able to see and not see.  I was thinking mostly about filtering by entry, but there are other ways I could see it working, e.g. by event type.  So essentially - what problem is that user trying to solve with Audit Trail, and what information should be kept from him?
