Question

problem opens electronic Document immediately after search

asked on December 20, 2016

we are facing a problem  if the search result returns only one entry and this entry origin was imported pdf , it opens electronic document (in pdf document viewer)  immediately not the LF document and in our case we add many pages to it after that so the end user will see only the electronic document and will not see the rest of the pages, how do i disable this feature?

This looks like a bug in Web Access. When the document is opened automatically (because there is one result), it always opens to the pdf viewer. But when the document is opened manually (by choosing "Open Pages") it will open to the LF page view. You can set the attribute [Search]OpenIfOneResult to No to avoid automatically opening the document if the search has one result. Then the user can choose to open the document in the document viewer by choosing "Open Pages". Set the attribute on the Everyone group to make it repository-wide.

I filed a bug report to get this fixed (bug# 153155)

Hi Ayman,

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly but you can configure your PDF view settings under options as indicated in the image below. If you don't want your pdf to open in the pdf document viewer, you can select the "download electronic file" option instead.

Alternatively, if you don't want to store PDFs at all, and you're importing PDFs into your repository, you can generate Laserfiche pages when importing PDFs by changing settings in Tools -> Options:

maybe I did not explain will,

what we are doing is these steps:

1- import pdf file into laserfiche and generate pages at the same time.

2- we add more pages to it ( from scanner or another document)

so if the electronic document is 5 pages and we scanned 2 pages to it, the total number of document pages will be 7.

now when we are working in web access and searching for this document after LF find the document it will be opened automatically in new tab after the search finished,

the problem when LF open the documents it open the electronic document (5 pages) not the entire document including the pages added to it (2 Pages) and this cause  lots of confusions for the user.

The only easy way I can see to fix this is to convert the PDFs to Laserfiche Pages, and then if you need to keep the PDF for some reason, keep a copy of the PDF on import as well. Then when your users open the document, all of the pages are TIFF images, and additional TIFF image pages added to it from a scanner will be visible with the original.

Either that, or keep the additional pages separate from the PDFs, and train your users to be aware that there are two documents; the original PDF, and the additional pages related to that document. You could also implement linked documents as a means of addressing this:
