QuickFields 10 Out of Memory

asked on December 16, 2016 Show version history

We're having an issue with large PDF imports into QuickFields (300meg + building plan documents) where I get a 'System.OutOfMemoryException' from Universal Capture inside QF.  The FileScan81 process hits about 900mb of RAM before this errors out (and the system has lots of free memory above this).

This seems to only have started occuring since QF10 (we are now on Update 1 but it didn't resolve it), but I could be wrong about the timing.  Smaller PDFs work fine but anything in the 275mb and up range tends to crash.

I'm not even trying to do any OCRing or anything, with these documents I'm really just trying to parse filenames and populate some field data with some regular expressions and then throw it into LF.  When this error happens the rest of the processing fails on that document and it never actually process the tokens or field data so it won't let me store the document.

Any ideas?

A couple things to check:

- Is there plenty of free space on the hard drive?

- If you're seeing the issue when scanning multiple files at a time, have you tried setting a retrieval limit to limit the number of files waiting to be processed?

Hi Tessa,

Thanks for responding!

It happens even if I just bring in a single file on its own that is around the 300mb size.  The documents have about 50-60 pages but the pages are D-E size as they're black and white CAD drawings.

The server has about 45 gigs of free space and 8 gigs of ram (I tried increasing it but it didn't resolve anything).  The process never uses more than 1gb of RAM it seems.

I did find by unchecking the OCR option under 'Document Content' in the location in your screenshot above I was able to handle slightly larger files, but any over about 400mb still failed with the same message.

I'm going to see if we can shrink the documents, I'm not really sure if we need them this big but I guess that doesn't really explain why QF can't handle them.

Yes - this has happened to us quite a few times over the years. Our limit seems to be about <500MB before the error occurs, so we usually end up just splitting the documents in half and processing two files instead of one.
