Question

Saved Column Profiles messed up for Everyone

asked on December 15, 2016

I have recently noticed that the Column Profiles that I built for our staff and pushed out for Everyone are all messed up.  When people use them, not all the columns I had included are there.

What is the quickest way to replace these?  I'm thinking I'd like to wipe out everything that was pushed to Everyone and reapply them all.  What's the best way to do that?

From the Laserfiche windows client, go to View->Columns->Load Columns. From this dialog you can delete all of your column profiles. Then rearrange your columns to the desired layout and go to View->Columns->Save Columns to save each profile. Once you have saved all of your profiles, go to the admin console and copy the [XmlColumnProfiles]Data attribute from your account to the Everyone account. You can copy it by selecting the attribute, choosing Export, save the xml file to disk. Then from the Everyone group's attributes choose Import to open the exported file.

Thanks, Robert.

For anyone else researching this:  Ultimately, there was no shortcut.  I deleted all the Column Profiles attributes in Everyone (and made sure there was nothing left showing for Columns under Attributes), rebuilt them in my Test User, Exported the Column Profiles files from Test User, Imported them into Everyone.

I found I also had to:

  • In the Admin Console, I ended up also going into the Test User to delete all column profile attributes to make sure only the newly created ones were going to end up in Everyone;
  • Then went back in and rebuilt all the column profiles I wanted (again!);
  • Then I found I had to delete all of the saved column profiles in my own Client to get the newly transferred ones to take over (with the new changes I had made).

Everything is good now.
