5 Million Backlog to migrate

asked on December 12, 2016 Show version history

Hi all,

We have to migrate 5 Million Backlog (Physical documents).

What is the recommended way to migrate such documents to laserfiche?

Thank you,

We performed a backfile conversion of about 3.5 million documents into our previous document management system, and we hired a local company (I believe they were called ACS) to perform the scanning, indexing and QA of all documents.  They provided us with optical disks which we used to load the images into our system using a custom bulk import tool.  The whole project took a little over a year of shipping documents off to ACS, and importing them into the system.  That was done about 18 years ago.

When we converted to Laserfiche a few years back, our VAR MVi, provided a bulk import tool to migrate all our documents from the old system into Laserfiche.

Hi all,

Please note that we have 5 millions (700GB) to apply existing metadata on documents that will be imported on Laserfiche. I have read an article for bulk import https://answers.laserfiche.com/questions/102669/Batch-Import--Implementation using Quick Fields and Workflow.

Can I please have a screenshot on how to design the workflow for the metadata assignment?

I don't think there's enough information here to provide a solution.  Where is the metadata coming from?  How are you going to trigger the workflow?  How will you connect the document with its metadata?  Are the documents in Laserfiche already?

Hi all,

I will use Import Agent to do the import documents into the repository. Once the documents are in the repository, a workflow will be launched to assign the metadata to the documents.

The metadata may come from a SQL table or XML. In the SQL table or in the XML file, there will be the document name, template name, customer name, customer ID. The document name will be the unique identifier in the workflow, If the document name is found in the repository, then it will query the rows of metadata from either the SQL table or XML and assign the metadata template and along with the metadata fields.

Thanks to advise on the logic. I need a screenshot of the workflow design.
