Forms removes the template of existing folder if no metadata is configured in Store to Repository activity

asked on December 5, 2016

If you configure Forms to store something in a path that represents an existing folder, and don't configure its metadata (such that it is set to "None" in Parent Folder Fields), Forms removes the template of the folder.

I can't tell if this is intended or not, but it feels pretty bizarre to me. I can't think of a situation where one would want to simply remove the template of an existing document in the repository (and not assign a new one).

I think when it is set to "None", it should keep the current template unless the user specifically configures it to be removed (maybe with a checkbox).

Hi Ege,

When configuring the fields for the parent folder, set the template to <Default> instead of <None> if you want it to retain the existing template.

Yeah, that's what I had to do. I was just saying that the current behavior was surprising and confusing. IMO if you don't configure fields in the Store to Repository section, Forms should keep things the way they are. Maybe consider changing the default template option from "<None>" to "<Keep Current Template>". After all, that's how Workflow's Assign Field Values activity works and I'd guess that's what most users are used to.

I can request that <Default> be the default template option for the parent folder instead of <None>. I was just pointing out that <None> is working as intended.

*Edit - SCR 152238 has been filed for this.

The default option is now "Keep Current Template" for Forms 10.2.
