Question

Using the business process screen as a built in instruction panel for workflows

asked on December 5, 2016

I am looking to use the business process pane as a location for instructions that the user can readily pull up, instead of trying to find the documentation for the workflow. When I try to use this feature however, the pane stays blank unless the user actually starts the workflow as a business process. Is there any way for workflow to start the business process automatically?

I am really only using it for instructions, not for the business process options.

I have already tried associating the starting entry, it still says that no business processes have been run on this entry.

Did you restart your Client after publishing this workflow?

The starting entry is automatically associated with a business process.

Starting instructions are only displayed when a user tries to start a business process. Instructions during a process are displayed as part of business process step activities. They do require the workflow to be marked as a business process, but it does not have to be manually started by a user, it can be triggered by starting rules or schedules.

If I start my workflow with a condition, I get a message that no business processes are running.

Here is my conditional starting rule added to a business process workflow.

Here is the state my workflow is in, currently waiting on an entry change

Here is my entry business process window

That worked. Is there any implications to this? My workflows never required a restart before, is it safe to use this for instructional only purposes?

See this thread for the explanation.

Ok so it appears this is only for newly created workflows, If I make updates to the workflow in the future the changes will be immediately available.
