LFDS to LF Server Communication Issues

asked on November 9, 2016

Hi All,

We have a customer with a server at a remote location, ports 5048, 5049 and 5055 are open bi-directionally between the remote location and the LFDS server which is hosted in a DMZ, we can see the traffic entering the DMZ on port 5048 but the connection still fails during the setup with the error “Setup could not establish a connection with the specified License Manager. Please check your server name and credentials”. Communication between the LFDS server and the LF Server is sound. To get around this, manually generating the license and installing, the event viewer shows that the license is stale and will expire in 1 hour as it cannot and never has communicated with LFDS.

We can install license servers internally with no issue.

Is there a different port that is used for the initial "handshake" between the LF server and LFDS when installing the LF Server? Is there a timeout on response times etc.?

Any help would be much appreciated. This is all LF10.

Cheers!

This was resolved in a support case. The issue was firewall related.

Completely opening the firewall gives and error in the application log:-

Failed to connect to server. Error: 0x800401F0

If this helps.....

EDIT- Also just to note, the remote PC is in an Azure cloud platform and isn't part of a domain, simply a workgroup setup. And the windows firewall is disabled with no AV installed. I can ping the LFDS server from the LF server in Azure but I cannot ping the Azure server from the LFDS server.
