Form variables not readily available

When adding new fields onto a form those new fields and variables are not available to use in Field or Lookup rules. The variable is listed on the variable tab but separated from the other variables as username is below.

Once I leave the form designer, such as going to the process diagram, and come back into the form designer page the variable is back as expected.

This was just from a quick test form I setup, no rules or javascript but we are seeing this behavior on other forms.

Has anyone else experienced this and/or know of cause and fix?

That is the expected behavior even from Forms 9. The form is not saved until you leave designer, so the variables are not saved to the database until that is done. It would be nice if there was a Save button that you could click so you didn't have to leave the tab and come back though just like all the other tabs have.

Note that you can just refresh the page instead of navigating elsewhere and then coming back to it.

It would be a more consistent behavior if there was a Save button.

The variables are not even available to use in lookup or field rules until I leave the form designer and come back in. I am pretty certain that they were always ready for use as soon as I added them to my form. Now I have to leave the page and come back in to configure a lookup or field rule. It's not always been that way.

As soon as you leave the Layout tab they should be available. If that's not the case I would open a support case.

I am having the same issue in forms 10. I added a multi-line field called Notes. I left the layout tab, went back, went through the process designer, to other tabs, etc. I refresh my Workflow tables, try to pull in the variable and it is not available. I logged out of both the Form designer and the workflow and back in and nothing. How do I get my variable to be available in Workflow?
