Customize default title bar columns in custom search

asked on November 2, 2016 Show version history

I'd like to customize the DEFAULT column view in custom search to include RPC# and NPA#.  Right now, I know I can click on "My Weblink" and display them in "Search Options," but they will not stay there for the next search.  I'd like to make them appear every time in addition to the current default, and then I will hide "My Weblink" to keep the users experience simple.  I know how to hide "My Weblink," but how do I include the RPC# and NPA# in the default search options so they display every time?  Thanks in advance for your ideas.

Yes, I meant the Desktop Client. There is no explicit 'Set columns for WebLink setting'. What you need to do is log in with your public user and manually set the columns in the Desktop Client to what you wish them to be in WebLink. If you want the same columns throughout your repository (versus setting columns individually for each folder), there is a setting for that. Otherwise, however you leave the Desktop Client columns, WebLink will match.

This is because when you set up your columns in the Client and then log out, the attribute to remember your columns is updated. This is the same attribute (mentioned above) that WebLink uses to read from. Ultimately, the goal is to get the xml attribute on the Public user.

One 'catch' that you may be experiencing is you also need the attribute [xmlColumnDisplay]HasMigrated with the value of 'true'. This is around from a legacy update, but your columns won't be read without it.

If you see the correct columns in Desktop Client when logged in with the Public user, the columns should be correct in WebLink.

Do you have WebLink set up to use a single public account that all external users connect with? If so, log in to Web Access or Client with that user, run a search, and modify the search results columns to what you wish the default to be. Then log out with that user. This will update the defaults for that user to whatever columns you set. After doing this, any user that connects to WebLink with the public user will default to seeing the new default search results columns. (Sometimes takes 15-20 minutes after logging out of Web Access for WebLink to get the new defaults)

If your WebLink is set up such that each user signs in with their own credentials, you will need to do add the search results default columns to the everyone group. There are other answers posts describing how to do this if necessary.

Thanks for the reply.  I do use a single public account that all external users connect with.  When I try the  solution you outlined, the new columns stay, but only for me and only on my machine because they appear to be stored in the cookies.  If I delete the cookies, the columns do not stay by default.  So if I go in with the public user that I have set up and go in through "My Weblink" and modify the search, this does not change the defaults permanently so that our public clients will see the columns.  I am wondering if this would have to be set up through Laserfiche Administration Console, perhaps by modifying attributes, but I would not what attributes to select.   In the end, what I am trying to accomplish is to define the default columns that everyone will see and then hide "My Weblink" to simplify the experience of our public clients and avoid confusion.

You cannot change the default columns from WebLink itself as it is a read-only portal that cannot write back to attributes. You have to go into the Client or Web Access with the public user to change the defaults which then stores them in the attribute which WebLink can read.

Although I don't necessarily recommend it, the attribute you are looking for is [XmlColumnDisplay]Data. The attribute is used by creating a layout (listing the columns you want in order) in the top half, and then setting <search layoutid="[layoutID]" />

It's much easier to let Web Access do this for you though and just change the columns after running a search there.

I've tried a number of things to make this happen, including your suggestion about manually changing the attribute, but to no avail.  To be clear, I do not have WebAccess, so that is not an option.  By "going into the client," I thought you meant the Laserfiche client, but couldn't find anything there to change the columns in grid view in Weblink.  I looked closely at Laserfiche Administration Console and couldn't find anything there either except for the Public user attributes, but couldn't make it work from anything I tried there either.  Could you clarify what you mean by "the client" as well as where in the client I should look?  Or perhaps some direction on the manual fix in the attributes.  I could paste the current attribute for [xmlColumnDisplay]Data if that would help.
