Our SLA requires that we keep 3 years (1095 days), of audit data for 12 plus repositories. We are looking to create one VM SQL server for all of the DBs and one VM that will allow clients access to run their own audit reports. Each repository audit DB will contain approximately 400GB of data.

I am looking for any advice regarding best practices for this type of setup and any hardware recommendations for the new VM SQL Server and the VM Host.
