Question

Migrating VM with LFDS Running on it, v10

asked on October 31, 2016

Hi All

We are needing to migrate the VM that is running LF Directory Server (v10), and licensing.  I have found a number of "older" posts and documents on this but just wanting to verify our plan for this.

1.  Deactivate License as per attached - in LFDS

2.  Power down LFDS Server, this is also running our main LF Server services, take a VM backup

3.  Migrate VM to new hardware/vsphere location

4.  Power on and Reactivate License in LFDS

Is that all there is to the licensing migration, is the jist of this that the license is tied to a hardware footprint?  There will be no DNS or servername changes, just a simple migration.

Will there be any other possible gotchas that we should be aware of?  We will be doing this after hours, thus I won't have access to support through our VAR so want to plan accordingly.

VM migration shouldn't affect it, so you shouldn't have to deactivate as long as the specs of the VM are not changing.

The VM is moving to a different ESX server, different underlying CPU  - we did a test and LF licensing was foobar so we reverted back to original VM/ESX locations and I am trying to get a definitive method for migrating sorted out.
