Is there any danger changing a Template/Metadata Field type that is NOT indexed to indexed.

Background:

We have recently updated to v10, and searching is noticeably slower in v10 for our typical searches, in looking at this I noted that the field we typically search on (numeric invoiceNumber field) is not indexed, thinking of turning that on.  But want to ensure that is safe to do.
