Laserfiche 10 Overall Slowness Issues

asked on October 21, 2016

Hello,

My company and I have been having an issue lately with our installation of Laserfiche 10. Everything we do in it takes anywhere from 5 - 10 seconds to process. Opening folders, scanning documents, opening documents, closing documents. Prior to our installation of Laserfiche 10 we did not have this issue. No more than 5 users are ever using the service concurrently, so we eliminated the issue of the system being overtaxed by too many users. We've also eliminated the server itself being the problem after upgrading the hardware and optimizing the server build. And we are very sure it is not a network issue as this is the only network dependent service having issues.  We started experiencing this issue shortly after upgrading to Laserfiche 10.

We've ran out of ideas, so any ideas for what could be a potential cause of the slow downs would be greatly appreciated.  We are on the latest version of Laserfiche 10.1 available for both Client and Server.

If there are no performance issues from the LF client on the LF server machine, the problem is likely related to the network. Most of the communication is over HTTP, so a proxy or virus scanner could be interfering. We have also seen similar issues with malware that is acting as a proxy.

We currently do not have webaccess. The client on the server itself runs just fine with no issues. I haven't seen any new warnings or errors in the event viewer either.

What version of Laserfiche were you on before 10? This kind of performance issue is usually from SQL Server being overloaded or underpowered. There could also be a firewall between the client and LF server, do you see the same slowness from the LF desktop client installed on the machine running the LF server?

We were on the latest version of 9.x before. We also took into consideration a firewall issue, but it doesn't appear to be related, as removing it does nothing to improve the issue.

We hadn't considered the SQL database being overloaded though. Both Laserfiche and the SQL database are located on the same server. Is there anything we should look for to check if the SQL database is at fault?

It turns out it was the client virus scanner. We thought it wasn't a problem since Laserfiche was on the trusted list of programs. However, the virus scanner we use still slows down the data and scans literally every inch of every packet. The only way to give Laserfiche a pass was to add it to the exception list. After that, everything is working great. Thanks for the help!
