Question

Microsoft Word 97-2003 Documents are garbled when moved into Laserfiche Client

asked on October 19, 2016

Hello,

I have a user who is trying to drag and drop Windows 97-2003 documents into LF Client 10.1.151. When they do so, there is no image file, electronic file and the thumbnails display "garbled" characters. I am not able to recreate this on my machine which also has LF client 10.1.151. The document moves over just fine. Is there something the user can try to get this to work for them? Snapshot? Using the Save to Laserfiche add on in Word? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have provided a screenshot of what it looks like.

Thanks

Make sure doc/docx are not in the list of extensions that will be converted to Laserfiche pages:

Hi Charles,

I'm assuming the user trying to import the documents into Laserfiche does actually have MS Office installed?

Hi Chris,

That is correct, they have Office 2013.

Thanks

Hi Robert,

I will check that, also to clarify on my end, I can drag and drop the word doc into the LF client but not image file or electronic file shows up. I know though that this is because electronic files open in their native client. My thumbnails or searchable text show up just fine unlike the other users case.

Thanks

It would be interesting to know if someone else logs into their workstation, if they see the same thing.....

Have you tried to have the user convert the documents to Office 2013 format before importing into Laserfiche? Newer versions of Office will do odd things to documents made in older versions of Office even without the involvement of additional programs like Laserfiche.

This might help: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179019(v=office.14).aspx
