Question

Renew master license and Applications

asked on October 17, 2016

To my knowledge, I am required to renew my Master License prior to updating to Import Agent 10. Our system admin used to handle server and application updates but he has left the company.

1.    Renew Master License. Does this download the lf.licx file that I replace in the Server directory? Do I need to stop any services prior to updating the master license? I have also purchased some additional user accounts; I assume these will be reflected after renewing the master license?

I’m currently running Laserfiche Server 10 with a Maximum version of 10.1
Laserfiche Directory Server: 10.0.0.222

2.    Currently running Import Agent 9.0.0.464. I would like to update to 10 to avail of the option to OCR PDFs that do not have text streams.

I’ve installed some minor updates and hotfixes but nothing major. Any guidance from the LF community would be appreciated.

Thanks

Renewing your master license only replaces the master license. It does not replace licenses downloaded by individual applications.

  1. You may need to manually update your license for some applications. However, since you are performing a major upgrade (going from Import Agent 9 to 10), first renew your master license, then perform the install or upgrade. This allow you to get the latest version of the license through the installer instead of performing a manual replace
  2. You do not need to restart the Laserfiche Directory Server license to renew the master license.

To answer some of your other questions:

  • Upon renew, you will get the new user licenses added to your licensing site, but if you are using repository users (licensed per repository, handled in the desktop Admin Console), you would also need to increase the allocation of user licenses to your Laserfiche Server and replace that license manually
  • You can download the replacement licenses for any applications that need them under Applications > specific application > Get License (next to the machine you want to relicense)
  • If you need to replace the license on your Laserfiche server, you replace the lf.licx file found under C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Server. You can restart the Laserfiche Server service, or reload the license as described in KB:1012824
