Question

difference between electronic file and image

asked on October 10, 2016

Hello,

It might seems a little dumb but I don't understand the difference between electronic file and image.

I explain, I've scan a lot of paper document but when I add them to Laserfiche and opening one of them it is display in the electronic file panel. If I open the Image panel it has a grey background and this message :"This document doesn't have any page".

Is it normal ? I thought that after scanning them it would appear in the image pane.

Regards.

Then that is why there is something displayed in the electronic document pane, because only the electronic document component exists. If you right-click > Generate Pages in the desktop Client, it will generate the Laserfiche pages for the document (TIF images) which will then show up in the Image pane.

When importing the documents, you should be able to check the box for "Generate Laserfiche Pages" for the document to do this on import.

Hi Moana,

The Electronic File pane will show, if available for the file type, the electronic file component of an electronic document (PDFs especially). The Image pane will show the TIF image pages generated from a document. This page in the Help File and its subpages have more detailed information on the various panes in Laserfiche client applications.

Can you give more details about the scanning process? Are you using Laserfiche Scanning to scan physical pages into the repository with an external scanner, or to "scan" electronic documents on the workstation into the repository as Laserfiche documents? Or are you scanning from a third-party scanning software into, say, a PDF file and then importing that into the repository?

Thanks

Hi James,

Thank you for your answer. The documents concern are paper documents. These documents are scanned from a Ricoh multi-function printer to a folder, then they are import by drag&drop them into the LF Client.

What is the file extension of the documents after they are scanned, but before they are imported into the Client?

Scanned documents result into pdf files.
