Question

Read Only volume

asked on October 10, 2016

Hi,

I am trying to set volumes as read only but still be able to update the metadata of the documents.

When I mark a volume as read only I can no longer update the metadata.

I also try marking the volume as permanent. In which case I can update metadata but I can also add new documents to the volume which I don't wont.

Is there any way to accomplish this? We are currently using 9.2
Thanks
Gian

Hi Gian,

Marking the volumes as read only will also make the corresponding metadata read only. This is expected behviour and cannot be changed.

The only way around this is to control read-only access using access rights in the repository instead.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction! yessmiley

Hi Gian

Allow the files in the Volume to update metadata and remove add pages access from Laserfiche Client Access rights.

Set the Maximum limit of the Volume as the current size, so that new documents will not be created.

Hope this is helpful.

This is good, thanks.

The problem would be to loop through the documents in workflow.

I have about 5-6 million documents that will need to be affected.

Are you aware of any way of changing document access rights through SQL?

Thanks
GIan

Applying access rights directly on millions of documents will cause performance issues because it means millions of rows in the access rights table. If possible, set the rights on parent folders instead.

Me too agree with Robert.

If the files are across multiple folders with other volume files, you can move the files to another folder structure using Workflow/Quick field. Then asign access rights on the top most folder.
