We are experiencing an issue because sqlservr.exe is using too much memory. This causes us not to be able to run workflows. Is there a way to limit the amount of memory that sqlservr.exe can take?

You have to manually set that in SQL Management Studio. Log into SQL Management Studio, right click the server name at the top of the node in the Object Explorer (usually displayed on the left), and select Properties. A properties window will be displayed. Select Memory from the left menu. Set the Maximum memory to the desired MB value. Remember it is in MB and not GB.
Is there a rule of thumb on how much memory you should leave available or does that just come down to a user preference and what other applications are on that server? Just wondering if we should recommend leaving a certain percentage. Thanks
There isn't anything specific to Laserfiche. Microsoft has recommendations on their side. You'd want to restrict it if SQL is sharing the hardware with other applications and need to make sure the other apps have memory available. But even then, I would look at separating those apps out to their own servers first. If SQL is running on its own dedicated machines, leave it to manage memory on its own.
There was a Laserfiche KB article about this a long long time ago....in a galaxy far away.....
