Question

9179 - License Lacks feature activation required for the requested operation

asked on October 1, 2016

I have copied a LF 9.1 Classic database to a new server where LF 10.1 Avante is installed. The client just upgraded their license to Avante. When I go to register the repository on the new server I receive the error message "The Laserfiche serer encountered an error when trying to create or attach the repository: 9179 - Laserfiche lacks feature activation required for the requested operation." The help documentation mentions the error message, but does not give an details on how to troubleshoot. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this problem?

The resolution for this error was making sure that NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM had the sysadmin role in SQL.

Hi Blake,

I am currently experiencing the same behavior and I I have confirmed that the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM has the sysadmin role.

Please advise?

Hi Blake,

Sounds like there is a licensing issue going on here. Had something similar myself a few weeks back. I would try to de-activate and re-activate to refresh the license (this worked for me), if you are still having problems I would raise a support case.

Cheers!

maybe this can help, but I got the same error and the issue was :

the LF Server License was for AVANTE Server for SQL EXPRESS and we were trying to install in a full licensed SQL Server. After we installed Express we did not get this error.

Perfect Blake,

I had an Avante moved from sql2008 express to sql 2014 express 64bit.

Resolution was simply adding NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM as sysadmin role in SQL.

Saved me much time,

Thanks

I had this issue when switching to 10.4. It happened because the Services was still trying to run Laserfiche Authentication Services 10.3 instead of 10.4. Hence, I stopped Authentication Service 10.3 and started 10.4 and that remedied the issue.

I had this happen as well. Coming from 10.1.1 to 10.4 to a new server and SQL coming from 2012-2016. Mapped sys account to have dbo and the repository mounted successfully. Thanks Blake!

We are having the same issue and these fixes did not resolve the issue.

The LF server service is running on a domain account. Both NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM and the domain account have the sysadmin role to the database. We re-set up the DMBS connection with a new local sysadmin log-in and that didn't resolve the issue either.

This all happened after moving the SQL DB to a new server. Any ideas?

It's probably best that you open a case with Tech Support to troubleshoot this issue. Usually this error indicates that you're using a license missing a feature (for ex, you're only licensed for SQL Express but trying to connect to a full SQL instance).

That's exactly what it was - licensed for SQL express but trying to use full SQL. Forgot to update this yesterday. Thanks Miruna
